VES Jammers
VES Jammers
The VES Jammers are an auditioned group of 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students from Vienna Elementary School. The group began in 2005-2006 when Dave Cohen (“Dr. D.C.”) a High School Junior at the time, approached David L. Reynolds, Jr. (“Mr. Reynolds”) with the idea of starting an after-school percussion ensemble. The idea stuck, and with the help of Dr. D.C., the ensemble began rehearsing and eventually was able to book a few performances in the community. The signature Red Brute Trash Cans were purchased partly because of financial necessity, and partly because the group tried to emulate another famous percussion ensemble (Stomp!), at least at the core of it’s “found sounds” concept.
Dr. D.C. has gone on to college, but the Jammers live on. Lead by Mr. Reynolds, the ensemble is approaching it’s 5th year. The members of the ensemble use a combination of traditional and non-traditional instruments and perform repertoire ranging from their own compositions to arrangements of popular tunes (most recently performing Ozzy Osbourne’s Crazy Train). The Jammers have become a regular act at Herndon Worldgate’s Art’s in Our Schools’ Month Celebration in March, Vienna Volunteer Honorary Reception at the Vienna Town Hall, and the Viva Vienna! Festival over Memorial Day. The group usually rehearses weekly, and is always looking for more opportunities to perform in the public.
